Timber Framing is the craft of connecting large timbers together using pegged mortise and tenon joinery techniques. There are different styles used for the layout of timber frame joinery. The most common found in the United States is the “square rule method.” Pioneers of the 1970s, Jack Sobon, Tedd Benson, Steve Chappell, and Ed Levin were key revivalists of the timber frame vernacular. Because of their relentless interests in documenting and illustrating the historic roots of this architecture timber framers today enjoy a wide realm of possibility within the limitless design of the timber frame structure.
